Hosting Account Disk Usage Warning

I received an email warning my web hosting account running out of disk space. It indicated that my web hosting account has used 83.42% (16.68 Megs) of its allocated disk space. Can you tell me why this is happening with my web hosting account?

Actually this is just a kind reminder sending from the system.

When the disk storage of hosting accounts are reaching a certain level, the disk usage warning emails will be sent to the hosting contact. For our setting, disk usage warning email will be sent when your disk space reaches 80% and critical warning emails will be sent when it reaches 90%.

You can check the disk usage by logging in your cPanel. Once you login, you can see the disk usage as shown in the following diagram. It indicated that your account used 17.63 MB out of the 20 MB disk storage.

Disk usage overview

To see the details of the disk usage, click on the "Disk Space Usage" icon. The Disk Space Usage chart will be shown as the diagram below. It indicated that the mail folder consumes most of the disk usage of your hosting account.

Disk usage details

The next step is to check which email accounts consume most of the disk usage. Click on the "Email Accounts" icon from the main page of cPanel, the email accounts screen will be shown as the diagram below. This is clear that the second email account consume most of the disk storage. You should consider to remove some files from this account, or upgrade your hosting account.

Email Forwarding

Please explain what is Email Forwarding and Email Aliases?

To answer this question, this is better to take an example. Assume that:
  • your ISP is ABC. You have email adress from your ISP - alex9876@ABC.com
  • Now you register a domain, MyDomain.com

With our free Email Forwarding, all email addresses (unlimited) under your domain, for example:

support@MyDomain.com
sales@MyDomain.com
account@MyDomain.com
............................
............................
.... etc..................

can be sent (forwarded) to your email address (alex9876@ABC.com).

This way, if you change your existing ISP email to other ISP email (example: alex2323@AOL.com), you do not need to inform your clients or friends! Because, you just forward all emails under your domain to your new ISP email address (alex2323@AOL.com).

What is the difference between 'Email Aliases' and POP3 email account?

Actually, POP3 is an email box that can save your emails. While Email Aliases are only a pointer that forward emails to POP3 mail box. Therefore Email Aliases are sometimes called Email Forwarding.

You can use a single POP3 email account to receive emails from different email aliases. For example: in order to increase the image of your company, you can use 6 email aliases to serve your clients. Actually, you are using only 2 staff (peter and john) and 2 POP3 email accounts to handle all services for your clients.

The following table explain the whole situation:

Email AliasesPOP3 Email Account(Receive Emails Account
enquiry@MyName.competer@MyName.com
sales@MyName.competer@MyName.com
marketing@MyName.competer@MyName.com
service@MyName.comjohn@MyName.com
support@MyName.comjohn@MyName.com
repair@MyName.comjohn@MyName.com

Then all emails send to enquiry@MyName.com, sales@MyName.com and marketing@MyName.com will be received by peter@MyName.com (POP3 email account)

And all emails send to service@MyName.com, support@MyName.com and repair@MyName.com will be received by john@MyName.com (POP3 email account).
